Perseverance is one of the most important character traits or "fruits" we can possess.
Let's take a look at a couple of SIX-TWELVES for meditation today.
First one of my life favorites, Hebrews 6:12
Hebrews 6:12 KJV
That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.
Hebrews 6:12 NIV
We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised.
Hebrews 6:12 NLT
Then you will not become spiritually dull and indifferent. Instead, you will follow the example of those who are going to inherit God's promises because of their faith and endurance.
Now add an all time favorite from 1 Tim 6:12
Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.
Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.
Fight the good fight for the true faith. Hold tightly to the eternal life to which God has called you, which you have confessed so well before many witnesses.
Any bible reader worth their weight in salt knows that PATIENCE is highly honored as a character trait we must develop to please God but the biblical concept of patience really includes the concept of perseverance.
"fight a good fight!" (1 Tim 6:12 )
"run with patience (endurance, persistence) the race set before us, looking unto Jesus the Author and Finisher of our faith ... For consider Him that endured ... lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds." (Heb 12:1-3)
"Know ye not that they which run in a race run all,
but one receiveth the prize?
So run, that ye may obtain.
And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things.
Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.
I therefore run, not as one that beateth the air:
But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection:
lest that by any means when I have preached to others,
I myself should be a castaway." (1 Corin 9:24-27)
"He that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved." (Mat 24:13; 10:22; Mark 13:13)
"And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope" (Rom. 5:2-4).
"I know your deeds, your hard work and your perseverance. . . . You have persevered and have endured hardships for my name, and have not grown weary" (Rev. 2:2-3)
The godly may trip seven times, but they will get up again. But one disaster is enough to overthrow the wicked. Prov. 24:16
Run your race with patience and persevere until the job complete!
